Forging Partnerships for Literacy

A government program, WY Quality Counts regularly reaches beyond its core brands to collaborate with government agencies and NGOs across Wyoming to support child development. Literacy is a cornerstone of a child's growth, and WY Quality Counts wanted to build new relationships with rural libraries to help develop expert-approved literacy materials that would be used and loved in homes, libraries and classrooms.

With feedback and support from librarians and early development experts, we created a capsule campaign based around WY Quality Counts' adventure-loving mascots. We developed a board book and a story book, then packaged the stories with complementary educational materials: library check out kits for families, story time kits with hand puppets for library storytellers, and classroom kits with sample curricula for child care providers and teachers. Two thousand board books were distributed to libraries and other kid-related agencies and NGOs. A thousand classroom kits were distributed to 691 active centers and Head Start groups, 125 story time kits to 75 libraries, and 250 check out kits to 32 libraries. That adds up to a lot of potential to reach rural families and nurture early literacy in countless children. Now isn't that a happy ending?
